Pepperdine University Students Advocate for AI Integration in The Uganda Judiciary
Supreme Court's Justice Mike Chibita

Supreme Court's Justice Mike Chibita interacted with Pepperdine University interns who took him through a presentation on how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can enhance efficiency and effectiveness of the justice system in Uganda. These students are currently interning at the Supreme Court.

As part of their research, the students believe that integrating AI into the Ugandan Judiciary could significantly improve efficiency and effectiveness in areas such as reducing case backlog, expediting case disposal, aiding in judgment writing, facilitating research, and managing caseload.

Justice Chibita thanked the students for their insightful ideas, acknowledging the potential benefits of AI for the Ugandan Judiciary. He encouraged them to maintain an open mind throughout their internship, and that their ideas are valued.

He also advised the interns on the importance of understanding and adapting to the different personalities of judges, and the utmost need of professionalism.

"Every judge is different, embrace their characters and remain professional," he said.

He highlighted key principles that have guided his career, including time management, strong work ethics, courtesy, appropriate dressing, and adherence to natural law.

In attendance; Mr Scott Leist, East Africa Director Pepperdine Caruso Law, Ms. Hope Dease(Assistant Director of Advocacy and Marketing Pepperdine University), Prof Andrew Khaukha (Judiciary Technical Advisor).
